Welcome to The Horror Movie Critic
This site is going to be a look at horror movies past and present. I’m not a film historian, nor did I go to film school. This website is a labor of love. I love all things horror related. In fact, don’t be surprised if you see reviews for things that aren’t horror movies. I already plan to review horror themed boardgames, videogames and even books. The main focus will of course be on movies, but I will deviate from time to time. As far as I’m concerned you can never be subjected to enough horror entertainment.
How do I rate the films?
I will be using a simple grading scale from A to F…the one that we have been familiar with since around the 4th grade. However, I will be grading the movies on a scale. That means that the criteria for each horror genre will be different. What I (and the viewer) is looking for in a zombie movie, will be drastically different than what is considered good in a supernatural ghost thriller. I think this is the only fair way to judge all of the movies. I also will not be handing out A grades just because a movie is considered a ‘classic’. These movies are being watched in present day and will be judge based on how well they have held up over the years.
With that being said if I hand out something an A grade it is definitely worth purchasing and adding to your horror collection. If its a B then its certainly worth watching…probably worth owning if you love the genre. Anything with a C is at least worth a rent (still not a bad rating). A movie with a D might have one or two redeeming qualities. If it rates an F, I simply can’t recommend watching…even if its on HBO.
These are just my personal opinions…nothing more nothing less. As I continue to write more reviews I fully expect people to disagree with me.
