Upcoming Flicks

1.  Night of the Demons (Remake) – As you can tell from the review on this site, I’m a fan of the original.  This one looks to have its heart in the right place.  As long as it retains the fun style with the creepy setting I’ll be happy.  Hopefully no CG effects either. Update – this film sadly missed its October release and is now slated for February 2010.  Let’s hope things are still on track for a solid, gory good time.

2.  Daybreakers – I already linked the trailer to this once.  This interesting vampire flick doesn’t come out until January 10th 2010, but that hasn’t stopped me from getting excited.  The star studded cast includes, Willem DaFoe, Ethan Hawke and Sam Neil.  Enjoy the awesome trailer.

3.  The Wolfman (remake) – I love werewolves and this remake of the Universal classic has been on my radar for quite some time.  It’s been delayed seemingly forever and the production problems are troubling.  Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins should be mesmerizing on screen. (Update) – This was delayed AGAIN!  It’s now not coming out until Feb 2010.  Things aren’t looking very good for this one.  We will get the first trailer along with new Tarantino flick, Inglorious Basterds.

4.  Nightmare on Elm Street (remake) – I’m not the biggest fan of remakes, but I can’t deny the excitement I have for a new chapter in the NOES franchise.  Only time will tell if Jackie Earle Haley can replace Robert Englund as Freddy…April 2010 can’t get here soon enough.

5.  Piranha 3D (remake) – A remake of the old schlocker from producer Roger Cormen and director Joe Dante.  I don’t have a problem with this one since the original was a cheap cash in on the “Jaws” craze and this one looks to be stupid, bloody and fun.  This will be invading theaters just before summer (April 2010)

6.  Predators - We are FINALLY getting a proper sequel to Predator.  Sure it’s about 15 years too late, but I’m not complaining.  I love the fact that Robert Rodriguez’s studio is handling this one and I expect it to be terrifying and fun.  I still can’t believe they got Adrian Brody to star in this one!  As soon as there is a trailer I will post it.  Expect this to invade your cinema around July 2010.

7. Friday the 13th Part II 3D – The re-launch of the Friday series wasn’t exactly the greatest slasher film, but hey I’m always glad to see the big boys of the genre on the silver screen.  Supposedly, this one will be ready come summer 2010.

8.  The Hole – I’m very excited to see horror vetertan, Joe Dante, return to the genre.  The Hole is going to be a 3D film that focuses on a pair of brothers exploring a mysterious hole in their basement.  Despite this being aimed at kids/young teens the early reports have been fairly positive for this one.

9.  Survival of the Dead – At this point George Romero has become almost as unstoppable as the zombie hordes that he envisioned back in the 60s.  He is ready to unleash his latest zombie opus and it’s unclear at this point if it will be direct to DVD or wide release.

10.  The Shrine – Jon Knautz, Director of cult favorite Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, is readying his second horror film.  This film will focus on journalists trying to uncover a Cult’s evil intent.  Cults are super creepy and I’m very excited to see this.  While I wasn’t a fan of Jack Brooks I could see great ideas just beneath the surface and Knautz clearly has an eye for old school, special effects driven horror.  Knautz is going for straight horror this time around and things are looking mighty promising.  Hopefully this will be a resounding success and he can then return to Jack Brooks and give that promising character a proper (and better) sequel.
